URI Health Services


URI Health Services Mission is to provide high quality, patient-centered health care that is accessible, cost-effective and a valued service to the community.

We will work with you to help you understand your health care needs, make informed decisions about your treatment and achieve your optimal health. You can expect us to treat you with respect and compassion as we help you navigate through the complicated world of personal health care.

URI Health Services provides high-quality, comprehensive health care to students of the University of Rhode Island. As part of its mission for student wellness, URIHS believes that sustaining a healthy campus environment is an essential part of a student’s academic success. To achieve this goal, we have established the following core values:

Uri Healthcare Administration

Uri has a unique healthcare administration. Program that is dedicated to providing students. With the knowledge and skills necessary. To succeed in this fast-growing industry. A variety of coursework and practicums enable students to become well-rounded professionals.

Healthcare administration majors are exposed to all aspects of the healthcare system, including management, finances, government policies, politics, economics and ethics. The major prepares students for leadership roles in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. They can pursue careers in hospital administration, long-term care administration, medical practice administration and other health care management settings.

Student Health Services

Student Health ServicesStudent Health Services (SHS) is a fee-for-service, state-of-the-art health care facility providing quality health care to the students of the University of Rhode Island. The URI Health Services staff consists of nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, and medical office assistants. The SHS staff is dedicated to the health. And well being of URI students.

The medical director at SHS is Dr. Robert Redfield. Dr. Redfield has been practicing medicine for over 20 years and has been with Student Health Services for over 10 years. He has practiced both in a private practice setting as well as in an emergency department setting. Dr. Redfield is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency training at St Joseph’s Hospital in Providence Rhode Island where he served as chief resident during his final year of training. He also has a degree from URI in Physiology & Neurobiology. Dr Redfield sees patients on Tuesday and Thursday between 8:30am and 4:00pm and on Sunday between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Health Services, is staffed by. A team of nurse practitioners and nurses. Our staff provides health promotion and preventive services to students, including screenings, education and counseling, treatment for mild illness, injury management and referral services.

Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of our students by providing quality primary healthcare services in a confidential, caring environment to support their academic success.

We provide comprehensive primary healthcare services such as physical exams, women’s health care, evaluation and treatment of illness and injury (including STI testing), wellness education, general health information and referral to community resources. We also offer travel medicine advice (including immunizations), and are available during school breaks.

Getting health care

Getting health care is much easier if you have health insurance. But it’s not the only way to get care, and many people without insurance can still get care they need.

Services covered by insurance

What kind of services are. Covered by your insurance? If you’re not sure, call your insurer or look at the information you get from them each year. Some plans cover preventive care such as checkups and some. Some types of services may be fully covered. If you use certain providers or facilities (such as in-network providers or hospitals). You may need prior authorization for other services (“prior AUTH”) or to see certain specialists.

You can go to a community health clinic, Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, or another family planning clinic. They may charge less than the full cost of an exam based on how much money you make. Or they may count your visit as charity care and not charge you at all. You can also get a test for sexually. Transmitted infections (STIs) there even if you don’t want another type of exam or procedure.

The University of Rhode Island offers a number of health services, including medical care and mental health counseling. Make an appointment at Health Services if you are a URI student and have concerns about your physical or emotional well-being.

URI students, URI Health Services is open on a 24/7 basis during the academic year and on a limited basis during academic breaks. URI Health Services is a teaching facility for the URI School of Allied Health Professions, and students are an integral part of the clinical care process and the educational experience of URI Health Services.
